PLANNING: mise-en scene (cheinaz cordeiro)

Mise-en-scene is the arrangement of scenery and stage properties in a play or film. Depending on the different scenes included, the location changes as the title sequence progresses. Due to our genre of horror, props and lightening is crucial in order for us to conceive a specific reaction from the audience in order to maintain their focus throughout the sequence. Furthermore, our sequence 'footsteps,' is based on a girl (Cheinaz Cordeiro) who faces a troubled life and therefor lives in a bad neighbourhood. So alternatively, I've decided that a park or in general, the streets/suburbs would be a good location to start of at. This would bring realism to the sequence which could potentially make the audience more likely to feel connected to our title sequence, as they're able to relate it to their day to day life. In the park, bullying from the gang of hoodlums could be taken place here as it adds more tension to the scenery as horror movies tend to rely heavily on the manipulation of formal elements—the control of perspective.

We would also use scenes in the toilet perhaps in a school to give it the connotation that she prefers being in there as long as she's not in her bullies sight and infant decides to commit suicide while she's at it. Suicide is a very serious matter that generally has a emotion story behind this action so this makes the audience feel sympathetic towards the protagonist (Cheinaz Cordeiro) and therefor longs for more scenery. Later on when our protagonist is back as a ghost, another location would be in the school corridors, as the boys(bullies)would be walking down and at the far end while she would be looking direct at them but then disappears. This adds suspense towards the audience and therefor makes our sequence eye-catching as she(Cheinaz Cordeiro) stalks them in order to see them suffer as much as she did in her pre days and because of the fear, the boys tend to run away.

When our protagonist commits suicide, a knife will be shown with blood to add realism to the killing and in fact makes them question, why was taking her own life necessary? which keeps them entertained and therefor would want to watch the film. Its interesting because even though suicide has negative connotation, that is what horror movies aim to do, which is to create suspense and thrills. Knifes and blood have connotations of danger and death which shows dramatic irony and immediately draws the audience in.

We've decided that, when our protagonist is presented as a ghost,  grey and dull makeup will be crucial to make the audience feel frightened as it will appear more realistic and therefor can appeal to the audiences expectations in a horror film. In addition, she would also wear dark coloured clothes in order to convey a dangerous and threatening atmosphere even though she is generally a character the audience likes, as she was a innocent little girl who killed her life because of her bullies. This adds more tension and once again makes the audience hate the boys who are now in danger.

At the beginning of the title sequence, the lighting will be bright but dim to fit the connotations of a innocent girl which hows dramatic irony as she later commits suicide and becomes determined to serve revenge. The lightening will be very dull and dark to give it a mystery feel to it in order to reach the expectations of a horror film.
