Planning: The use of Sound in Previous Students Title Sequences

students opening title:

review and analysis:

They've managed to use diegetic sound very clearly especially when the male writes, the phone rings and footsteps appear. I also found that they used different types of sound volumes which caused tension at some bits.

However, I've noticed that even though they used a typical soundtrack of the horror genre, they didn't really use a lot of foley or non digetic and digetic sound. The lack of variety means that its not as good as it could have been.

  • Overall, i think that this title sequence deserves a 5\10.

review and analysis:

I found that this title sequence used different sound effect effectually and used them wisely. They managed to incorporate every type of sound effects such as footsteps running which successfully established the 'thriller' genre. I really liked how  this overlays well with with the over exaggerated, however there tends to be a slow pace in the background. One thing, that really got to me was the gun reveals and police sirens which contributes to the themes and codes and conventions of horror. This gave a sense of tension as those are signals of danger and predominately death.

  • I would consider giving this a 10\10 rating.
